Had the luck to pick up a last minute ticket to Broken Bells last night.
It was their second show EVER, and they had us bopping, and swaying and toe-tapping all the way through.
James Mercer has such nice, low-key stage presence. Not cocky or wooing. He was friendly, played his music, thanked the audience with sincerity, and said goodbye. That's all I needed.
The lyric “So if you want to follow me, you should know / I was lost then, and I’m lost now / and I doubt I’ll ever know which way to go” struck me in a way that it hadn't before when I listened to it through my speakers. It's a good line.
Also, I stared at him throughout the entire show thinking about how much he looked like Kevin Spacey...with a twist of Jonathan.
